The Skibidi toilet thing was from a creator event at YouTube's offices in New York. I was there and have a few clips from worse angles. It happened three or four times throughout the night, kind of flash mob style. I thought maybe each performance would be a different top trending Short of the year, but it was just that one over and over. Some people were definitely into it, but a bunch of us had no clue what was going on. I had never heard of it before that. Overall a cool event though, and credit to the performers for committing.
Furries basically run the internet going back to the 1970s. And furries are basically why Linden Lab (second life) and VRChat even have a profitable business model.
The fact that the industry is realizing a download is not and never has been equal to a listen doesn’t change the number of people who actually listen to a podcast. The idea that advertisers are choosing to seek more and better metrics to measure their listener engagement should be considered a good thing!
If people pay for games that they don’t play, books they don’t read and movies that they don’t watch, it’s naive to assume that less financial/digital friction can result in an equal or lesser number of “aspirational” downloads. I don’t know why anyone with access to this kind of money could arrive at another conclusion.
How do you think the industry will try to develop better measurements? Will it just be left to shrivel?
APPLE YOU SHIT. So that’s what happened to my podcasts, i found it went weird last year but life’s been not great so I couldn’t spare time to investigate why i had to go to the page of the pod to access new episodes. Arghhh! This doesn’t reflect how I listen at all- i often let several episodes build for a few weeks and then binge ones, especially if they’re sequential ones!
Hey Ryan - if i continue to subscribe through substack do they take any of that money? I ideally would like to unsubscribe from that nazi platfrom and make sure I'm getting the most of my sub to you - how will the changeover work?
I'd like to see Spinal Tap as the opening act for a Kyle Gordon act in the sequel they're making. Kid's got it, completely in line with their tradition
What do you think the likelihood is that Musk will boost ad rev for MrBeast to “prove” him wrong?

The planet of the bass guy needs to joke less and try a little harder on the song writing. Planet of the bass was almost actually good
