...Figma isn't Notion though and is not meant (in any way) to replace Google Drive.

This...seems like a pretty basic misunderstanding of the product and target user base for Figma. Like, It's not a consumer product? Analogs are Photoshop and Sketch, not GDocs. I get it if you're testing general market penetration/awareness for tech products, I just don't get the value (it'd be like seeing if my parents were aware of AutoCAD...why would they? Who cares if they didn't?).

Super weird framing that undercuts the rest of the research for me personally, tbh. Just FWIW!

It's really remarkable to me that MrBeast's total lack of remarkability beyond the stunts hasn't gotten more attention. He's arguably the face of youtube to millions of people, yet as you say, he lacks charm, style, charisma, anything to say, whatever. The Rock and Bob Barker both are/were people with immense charisma and showmanship. MrBeast is like a Tom Hanks-Big oversized dorky 13 year old. For someone who is so prominently the face of his own channel!

I'd love a deep dive into why MrBeast has succeeded in spite of (due to?) his offputting look/vibe. Beyond just, "he does the algorithm" or "he's psychotically obsessed with youtube" (though both are obviously true).

What makes his Patrick Bateman tick, and why do people seem to really connect with it?

I assume the survey is US respondents? Because I would rank Instagram Reels as far higher in jurisdictions (like where I live, Hong Kong) where TikTok is blocked.

On that note, I have never come across a single country other than the US where iMessage is a major player in the messaging space. No one in Asia or Europe has ever asked me to text them, they've always given me a mobile number as their WhatsApp or Signal number.

Adobe won't be buying Figma anytime soon if the DOJ has anything to do with it (thankfully!): https://www.politico.com/news/2022/11/02/doj-review-adobe-20-billion-figma-deal-00064671

For those intrigued by tumblr culture: the concept of a tumblr sexyman has a very specific nuance, and I think the key is that to gain true sexyman status, the character becomes a popular outside of the context of its own canon. Captain America is not a tumblr sexyman, even though the poor guy is shipped all over the place. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock is. Peter Capaldi’s Doctor: no. Matt Smith’s Doctor: yes. It obviously helps to be young, skinny, male, and white - or as in the case of Cecil off of WTNV, be imaginable as such…

One kind of nit picky thing - I think the main reason ‘Snapchat DMs’ are so low in recognition is that most people don’t consider that DMing. If you categorized that as ‘Snapchat messaging’ or texting of some sort I think that data would be less skewed.

I think Mr Beast runs for president as an independent in 2036 and comes very close if not wins. My 15 year old son opined, when I told him this, that this wasn’t possible because he was going to turn away from producing content for US audiences once he saturated his potential English speaking fanbase. He would have to pivot to content more exciting to Asia and Africa at that point to keep growing, and presumably lose his oomph from an American point of view.

I loved these polls on tech. It's so fun to see the state of these apps. I felt very average in the polls, except I use Notion regularly-- somewhere between hyper and chill. I just love how simple it is. It's the closest thing to an actual notepad to me. Loved the post, look forward to more! 🤓

I suspect the reason Snapchat in general is so low is your audience skews millennial; my brother is GenZ and Snapchat is to him what Messenger is to me (10 years older). They plan everything on Snapchat, they use it for all their everyday conversations, etc.

The "talking to your light bulbs" line was hilarious. I loved the last line of the section pointing out how much money the valley companies have to pay back to the vcs. It's not something a lot of ppl who cover this space talk about but its the reality for these institutions.

I liked the garbage day history lesson via the rowling meme as it introduces another online character that sounds charming. ( BTW the insta chocolate dude falls in this category as well) professional MKer sounds just like an awesome content creator.

Mr. Beast is only yu-gi tournament core haircut, if we're talking about Leon from s5, he's no bandit Keith, Rex or weevil, Raphael, or darts. Maybe Joey?

I liked your take on the ai simping, I just don't know if the feminization of porn (BTW which is super weird for those of us who grew up in the nu metal era) will last? It feels like another phase of the culture war where first they tried to ban porn, then they tried to be like 'its for betas' and then eventually they'll pivot to something else that will fail to the fact that porn is ubiquitous and dudes who can sext with women they'd have no chance with (but have parasocial relationships with)for money is a massive change in how society worked. Anyway great to see more of this content from the aptly named @ryanpornstar
