Honestly it is quite intimidating considering I used to be on there and now have to contemplate going back, and now realizing i won't understand a lot of crap going on. Good for tumblr keeping relative normies like me out but twitter refugee status sucks. Good for Allegra too adding more follows, she's on her way to being the next Mr. Beast!
I really liked your bit on the tiktok fetish thing because the algorithm when it does push sexual content seems to be pushing stuff like that not just women in bikinis. I hope this doesn't end fb style with everyone watching women eat out of toilets, but it does seem trending that way.
I got to listen to your spaces last night (I was kinda doing it expecting the site to crash while listening) and agree with most of the stuff you said. The cjr piece expecting us twitter refugees to assimilate to mastadon is just salt in the wound that twitter may not happen again. I don't want to mis twitter it's just sad that the other social media companies will make us. Also I plan to use mastadon like Twitter and they need to nut up.
Great commentary. Yep, I feel super sad about it. I didn't expect to feel this sad. There's a tinge of anger too, like when taking a bite of chocolate just to find that the inside is filled with coconut, yuck! I wish Dorsey didn't sell it to Musk, who has a history of being erratic. I don't know. I get that it made sense financially for Dorsey, but man, what a sad, sad day. 😥💔
Something I don’t understand about Isekai -- yes I know I’m four months late, I’m sorry, I have a lot of Substacks and I still read Twitter a lot. But! Western fantasy featured people from Earth being transported to fantasy realms all the time. I mean, Narnia! What’s the difference being Isekai and that?
Thanks for the Space last night, and for your all’s perspective throughout this Twitter saga. I might’ve had a sports journalism career without Twitter, but it 100% boosted my ability to stand out from a crowd early in my time as a beat reporter.
Something else will come along, but it’s hard to think about saying goodbye to a platform that -- warts and all -- has been so integral to my professional and personal life for a decade.
