How do Twitter and their payment processor (Stripe?) get away with taking money from the Taliban?

Every week you write that Twitter is getting worse and should be avoided while the rest of the newsletter is still all content plucked from Twitter. Like many of your readers in the comments, why not be the change you want to see and look elsewhere?

I left Twitter for Mastodon a few months ago and have never looked back. The more people who remain on Twitter, the more advertisers will continue to fund that abusive site.

I reached my breaking point last week with Twitter’s sinister decent into 4chan and noticed something pretty horrifying while deleting. In the account settings for my ‘adult’ account under personal information, ‘13-54’ was listed under ‘age range’. The description said: “Accounts that have not specified an age are assigned an estimate based on interaction with content so Twitter suggestions are more relevant.” In other words, porn content is identified explicitly in Twitter’s algorithm as appealing to kids as young as 13.

So, psychologist lady watched The Banshees of Inisherin and thought a corporatized version of "Feck off, you're dull, and taking valuable time away from my music" minus threats of digital self-amputation was something the world needed? Guess art affects people in different ways, lol.

Hope things are going well for you in Sao Paulo.

I'm glad you covered that tiktok trend because I have seen that and all I can make of it is that for a dude with a short attention span the next generation is gonna be more scatterbrained than me.

The section on the taliban was (perhaps unintentionally) might be the funniest thing I've read so far this year. From them embracing then being embraced by the top g to the fact that twitter went from high minded discussions if who should be allowed on Twitter to "just give us 8 bucks" I couldn't stop thinking how absurd this all is now. I think your 4 chan analysis may be right, I just find with twitter everyone is so used to using it for news, news twitter will never really die out the way other sides of it has.

Credit to you for not dedicating this edition of the newsletter to the brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan.
